TSN Systems Timepiece

Precise time synchronization across Ethernet networks acting as a PTP Grandmaster

The TSN Systems Time Piece is a sophisticated yet compact device designed to receive Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals and accurately convert their timing information to the IEEE 802.1AS-2011 standard for precise time synchronization across Ethernet networks acting as a PTP Grandmaster.

This device provides high-precision time aware systems (AVB/TSN) for an industrial environment, that requires a satellite synchronized IEEE 802.1 AS PTP Grandmaster and/or has widespread TSN networks that are connected through aa standard, non time sensitive network . A variety of hardware interfaces for Ethernet, USB, clocking and status LEDs complete the feature set.

The TSN Systems Time Piece is an essential tool for any organization requiring a grandmaster for precise time synchronization over Ethernet networks. Its robust design, high accuracy, and comprehensive feature set make it ideal for a wide range of applications, including the satellite synchronized TSN (sub) systems mentioned above, ensuring reliable and precise time distribution across complex networked systems.

Key Features:

  1. GNSS Receiver:
    • Multi-Constellation Support: Supports multiple GNSS constellations, including GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou, ensuring robust and reliable reception in various environments.
    • High Sensitivity: Advanced signal processing capabilities allow for accurate positioning and time data even in challenging conditions such as urban canyons or dense foliage.
    • Antenna Compatibility: Compatible with various GNSS antennas to optimize signal reception based on specific use-case scenarios.

  2. Time Synchronization:
    • Precision Timing Engine: The device integrates a precision timing engine that processes GNSS signals to deliver accurate time and frequency information.
    • Nanosecond Accuracy: Capable of achieving nanosecond accuracy in time synchronization between nodes, ensuring precise coordination across networked devices.
    • PPS output: A physical PPS output signal on SMA can be used for external synchronization or verification.
    • External 10MHz clock input: Holdover stability over long periods can further be improved by connecting an ultra-precise external 10MHz clock to an SMA input.

  3. IEEE 802.1AS-2011 Conversion:
    • PTP Support: Implements the Precision Time Protocol (PTP) as defined in the IEEE 802.1AS-2011 standard, facilitating seamless integration with Ethernet networks.
    • Timestamping: Provides hardware-based timestamping for outgoing packets, enhancing synchronization accuracy.
    • Clock Synchronization: Acts as a standalone grandmaster clock, distributing time information to slave devices within the network regardless if synchronized to GNSS or not.

  4. Network Interfaces:
    • Ethernet Connectivity: One 100/1000BASE-T Ethernet port for easy integration into existing network infrastructure.
    • Management Interface: Another 100/1000BASE-T Ethernet port is available for simultaneous connection to a user-friendly web interface, updating, monitoring, and diagnostics.
    • Sub-nanosecond synchronisation options: Several Time Piece devices can share a common clock or PPS input to guarantee a sub nanosecond precision in-between Grandmasters.

  5. Environmental Robustness:
    • Rugged Design: Built to withstand harsh environmental conditions, with options for temperature and humidity resistance.

Applications:

  • Coordinates time-sensitive operations in industrial manufacturing and process control environments.

  • Can synchronize wide spread sub-systems with nanosecond accuracy.

  • Future-proof networks that require the highest precision and robustness.
